Jen & Eric | Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Engagement Session

I have so much fun with my couples during our engagement sessions no matter where we end up, whether it’s Napa, SF, or Santa Cruz beach.  It’s a great time for me to get to know them better and to help them understand my photography style so they know what to expect on their big day.  My number one goal is to help make them feel so comfy that they forget I am taking their photos. Jen & Eric met me at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and came dressed to impress.  And I love that Jen went through the effort of getting her hair and makeup done because I think it makes a huge difference in the photos. Between the bag of goodies they brought and the different attractions, we were able to create some super colorful photos together at the Boardwalk!

Threshold Racing Presents 2012 San Jose Metro Triathlon

Thank you to the folks at Threshold Racing for allowing us the opportunity to come and shoot the PR shots for their 2012 SJ Metro!  Some of the best multi-sport athletes we have in the south bay came out to this event.  A special thanks to Andrew Ferguson and his team at Threshold for all their hard work.  Here are some of the shots we got for them…

Stephanie & Minh | Almaden Calero Reservoir Engagement Session

When I asked Stephanie and Minh where they wanted to do their engagement session, they said somewhere near a nice lake.  So a lake it was!  I’m out in south San Jose and the nearest lake was at Calero Reservoir. It’s beautiful location and has amazing lighting during the later afternoon hours.  We chatted about life the entire time and had fun being one with mother nature!

Rebecca + Ben | Watsonville Wedding @ “The Flat”

I remember going to elementary school with the most adorable little girl named Rebecca Lynn.  30 something years later, my childhood friend Rebecca contacts me to see if I would photograph her wedding to the amazing Ben Loveless.  I was so incredibly honored!  We met up, scouted out Ben’s family’s property and I knew this was going to be a very special wedding.  Almost every detail of Rebecca & Ben’s wedding was either hand made or was put together by family members or close friends.  I made sure to capture these special details throughout their wedding day.  Congratulations to you both!!

Randi | High Senior Senior Portraits

I love working with seniors!  They have such an amazing energy about life that some of us ‘older’ folks seem to forget about. Randi is no exception!  I met up with her and her mom in Los Gatos for our hs senior photo session.  It was fun to finally meet them both since we had been emailing back and forth to plan for the photoshoot.  A special thanks to Rose Hill for her work with hair and makeup!  Here’s a sneak peak at Randi’s senior photo session!

Breigh + Brian | St. Joseph’s Church Wedding

I had a great time helping Breigh and Brian plan for their wedding day!  Breigh is teacher and has the world’s craziest schedule so we met during her ‘prep’ period one day and I knew this was going to be a very fun wedding!  Needless to say, I was much ready to rock and roll on their wedding day.  And for them, it’ll be awesome to know that they can celebrate their anniversary every year on St. Patrick’s day!  Thank you to you both for treating me and and my staff with such kindness.  And thank you to your families and friends for all their help throughout the day.  Cheers!

Rebecca + Ben | Watsonville Engagement Session

Ben’s family has own this amazing property down in Watsonville known as ‘the Flat’ where he and Rebecca will be getting married in April.  It was neat to scout out the property with them and to hear the history behind it.  We did our engagement session at the same time and was blessed with amazing weather!  It’ll be really cool to see how transformed the property will be for their upcoming wedding.

Kristine + Nate | Santana Row Engagement Session

I love my couples and when they power through a RAINY engagement session with a positive attitude, well I love them that much more!  Kristine and Nate took the day off for our shoot at Santana Row and were such troopers the whole time. We shot in between the downpour and totally made the best of it.  I admire the love they have for each other, which is clearly evident by the way they look at each other.  These are a few of my favorite shots from our e-session.

A special thanks to Lindsey Bolls of Federal Realty (Santana Row’s Marketing Coordinator)!

Carin + Scott | Tiburon Wedding @ Mt. Tamalpais

I went in to photograph Scott and his groomsmen and immediately noticed the cool aqua-painted walls.  The aqua walls at the Tiburon Lodge were ‘clean’ with minimal distractions and the natural light that was coming through window was gorgeous!   As wedding photographers, we always try to envision a photo before we actually take it and that’s what I did.  This helps me plan for lighting, composition and all the other technical stuff that my couples hire me for.  I knew I had to make this happen.  I saw that Scott was getting ready in a darker area of the room so I recommended that he move towards a better lit area.  I always ‘guide’ my couples so that the photos I take look as natural and candid as possible.

So I stepped back….and snap, snap, snap went my camera.

Not bad.  I got a few shots of Scott reacting to his buddies’ tasteless jokes. LOL!  I repositioned myself and snap, snap, snap.  A few more of him getting ready…..

Cool, but not what I had envisioned prior.  I kept hearing Rick Sammon’s voice in my head, telling me, “When you think you’re done shooting, keep shooting.”  And BAMM, it happened!  Scott pulls out his vows and got the biggest ‘kid in a candy store’ smile on his face!!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shot from Carin & Scott’s wedding!!

Tom Vo Photography - Carin+Scott's Wedding | The Lodge at Tiburon
Super stud groom, clean background and ridiculous lighting had everything to do with it.  The result was the exact shot I had envisioned prior.  Only my 2nd photographer will ever know this since I shared it with her prior to the shot.  These are the exact moments prior to a wedding that helps to tell the story of your special day.  The only way that Carin, his bride, will be able to share a special moment like this will be through this photo.  Cheers!!
